What's the best way to get rid of gophers?

I don't want to use poison because that's just not very environmenty friendly. But those little buggers are ruining what little lawn I have. Should I just sit quietly with a 9 iron and wait for them to pop up? I'm not a very good golfer, so should I go for a sand wedge?
